Local Recreation
Shady Cove and the
surrounding area supplies a wealth of recreation opportunities.
From swimming, rafting and
boating in the beautiful Rogue River this summer, hunting and
snowmobiling in the winter, or enjoying world class fishing in any
season, the Upper Rogue River presents some of the best scenery
available anywhere.
Dining in the area is also
exceptional, with food choices ranging from Mexican to Asian
specialties in area restaurants to simple American burgers and
fries served with a milk shake. The area also has three
steakhouses for fine dining.
A nearby grocery market
allows hungry travelers dining on a budget, to purchase fresh
foods. Shady Cove is a "full service" community having every type
of business or service you might need while staying in the area.
About one hour's drive
north on Oregon State Highway 62,
Crater Lake National Park
(in Douglas County) encompasses the
remains of a destroyed volcano. Crater Lake has no streams flowing
into or out of it. The lake's water regularly has a striking blue
hue and is 1,958 feet (597 m) deep at its deepest point. This
makes it the deepest lake in the United States and the seventh
deepest anywhere in the world. Established as the fifth National Park in the U.S. more than
100 years ago, the park
is Oregon's only National Park.
Nearby Douglas County also offers
fishing, swimming, camping, horseback riding, hiking, and hunting
throughout the summer and fall; while snowmobiling, Nordic and
Alpine skiing, inner tubing and sled dog racing are popular throughout the winter and
spring.
5 public boat launches are located on
Diamond Lake. The North End Boat Ramp has a concrete jetty for
shoreline fishing and is designed for persons with disabilities.
Three fish cleaning stations are available.
The abundant wildlife of the Upper Rogue River provides sportsmen
with some of the best hunting and fishing in the state.
